Alkalinity is an essential parameter that has to be set when starting up a swimming-pool. The Hymatic system will not affect alkalinity; however, low alkalinity can cause problems in adjusting the pH, greenish water pipe, and compromise the effectiveness of the purification system.

An appropriate setting is between 100 and 175 mg/l. It is often necessary to increase it. To do this, use an alkalinity booster (bicarbonate of soda or carbonate). Once set, it is not usual to amend it greatly subsequently.
